| CLOUD is a small lightweight chair which is easily gripped, easy to handle and easy to stack. The main areas of use are cafeterias, gathering rooms and cafés. In the design the repetition of the shape at tables or in rows has been a major concern, while the shape in itself must also be supple and sculptural. The chair back hovers over the characteristic slight steel frame and gives a number of associations: a cloud, a sea bird, a jumping dolphin… This has been made possible by a carefully considered geometry, wherein the horizontal curve of the chair back and its curved lower shape is adapted to the tube frame’s curved top in two directions, which gives the complicated assembling point strength. The back – like the seat – is mounted with a single screw as well as a specially designed circular metal bushing which contributes to the unique expression of the chair. The back shaping is created using the newest industrial technology for working with changing material thicknesses – through computer-aided preparation and plywood-cutting. The result of this is that the top edge of the chair back is drawn as a fine line and also is slightly flexible. The seat and back are made of wood and are available in various laminates or painted in a number of colours. The frame is available in chrome. CLOUD matches perfectly with the flexible table system OCEAN from EH SEATING – also designed by Troels Grum-Schwensen. |
