MINIMIZED LONGTABLE
1995-96

Contact :
An experiment where the tensile powers underneath the traditional tabletop are moved to a tensed steel wire. The idea is to obtain an extraordinarily long free span with a very thin table top.
Like in a bow or certain bridge constructions, an ashwood-center rail – as well as the table top – is tensed slightly upwards in the middle. When placing weight on the table, the table top and the center rail will only need to absorb the pressure, while the tensile powers run in the tensed wire. The wire ends are fastened to the sloping trestles and ensure that they do not slip outwards. This means that the load together with the floor will work as a positive stabilizing factor. The larger the load, the more stable the table will be.
The constructive idea of the table has been intentionally exposed in order to offer a clear and elegant expression.
